Ready for our next Washi Tape Wednesdays post?

I must admit that I really look forward to writing these posts – h
opefully you look forward to reading them!

Today we’ll be focusing on lots of ways to use our beloved washi stash.

And, not just for papercrafting projects, but for lots of different projects.

What, you’re not a washi addict yet
?

Well just wait – after you see how handy this simple and relatively inexpensive supply is, you may just cross over to the ‘dark side!’ 😉

It’s great for all sorts of craft projects, but also for gift-giving and household decorating, and so much more.

But before we get started,
what do YOU want to know about washi?
(Besides how to get your hands on more, more, more!)

Share your thoughts in the comments
and we’ll do our best to oblige!

You might just
WIN some wonderful washi
just for doing so!

Washi Use #1: Scrapbooking Layouts

How many of you have incorporated washi into your scrapbook layouts?

There are quite a few ways to do so – use it to create:

  • Borders
  • Grids
  • Photo Mats
  • Banners
  • Flags
  • Pleated ‘Ribbon’
  • Pinwheels
  • Lovely Backing for Die Cut Shapes
  • Lettering (Line up or strips and die-cut letters, or shapes, from it)
  • Photo Corners
  • ‘Flip’ Hinges for Extra Photos & Ephemera
  • Journaling Lines

I love to use it for creating grids, for adding extra bits that can be interacted with and as a divider between papers.

And you?

Washi Use #2: Cards

And who’s a fan of adding this fun supply to their cards?

Me, me, me!

Not only can you use washi on your cards just as mentioned above for scrapbook layouts, you can incorporate it into your cards too – try it as:

  • Edging
  • An Embellishment
  • A Card Face Background
  • A Color Block
  • Flowers & Rosettes
  • Decoration for A Matching Envelope
  • And, to Hold Items in Place

Or, how about placing lots of strips on white paper, creating a custom ‘patterned paper’ of sorts, then punching shapes from your new paper and adding the punched shapes to a card front?

I’d love to hear how you use washi tape in your cards!

Washi Use #3: Altered Art Projects

Any fans of altering in our community?

We’re betting there are based on the response we’ve had to those types of posts!

Well, here are a few ideas for using washi in your altered art projects – use it to:

  • Cover Raw or Unsightly Edges
  • Mask Off Areas to Be Painted
  • Create Texture
  • Add Hints of Color or Theming
  • To Hold Items In Place
  • To Change the Color of Embellishments
  • To Wrap Items Being Added to Your Project
  • To Create ‘Handles’ On Your Stencils

I also love using it to create stripes over which I’ll spread gesso, paint or modeling paste – lift the washi strip before these mediums dry and voila, stripes and layers!

Let’s hear how you’d use washi in altered art!

Washi Use #4: Gift Wrapping & Gifts

I don’t know about you, but I love creating (and receiving!) gifts made with, and given in, coordinated materials.

Add washi to plain and simple paper, bags and tags to make your wrapping as wonderful as the gifts!

Use it to adorn plain paper, gift bags and tags with:

  • Stripes
  • Borders
  • Banners
  • Flags
  • Pleated Ribbon
  • Rosettes
  • Flowers
  • Letters
  • Numbers
  • Blocks of Color
  • Designs to Match Your Handmade Cards

Or, use washi to create small gifts, such as bookmarks.

To make a bookmark, simply fold tape over the longer end of a paper clip and cut the tape into a flag shape – easy peasy!

I bet you have ideas too, so share ’em!

Washi Use #5: Party Decor

Who doesn’t love a well-decorated party venue?

I know I love it when the decorations are coordinated and festive!

Why not put your beloved tape to work dressing up your next shindig – it’s as easy as:

  • Adding It to Plain Party-Store Plastic or Paper Tablecloths
  • Trimming Paper Plates & Napkins
  • Encircling Paper Cups or Drink Bottles
  • Wrapping Plain Straws
  • Creating Signage
  • Decorating Goodie Bags w/Washi (& Adding Some as A Gift!)
  • Making a Cake Topper w/Skewers & A Washi Banner
  • Creating Cupcake Flags w/Washi & Toothpicks
  • Edging a Hanging ‘Happy Birthday’ Banner
  • Marking Off the Floor for Games

It’s so easy to ‘temporarily’ decorate a venue with washi – and when the party’s over, simply remove the tape and you’re ready to start decorating for your next event!

I’m thinking you have fun event decorating ideas to share – how do you use washi to decorate for events?

Washi Use #6: Home & Office Decor

Little to no budget for new home or office decor?

No problem!

Using washi makes quick work of livening up the most inexpensive items and yesterday’s treasures.

Try a few of these ideas for your office:

  • Wrap Inexpensive Pens
  • Cover Emptied Cans to Create Pencil Holders
  • Cover Emptied Cereal and Cracker Boxes (after cutting them down) to Create Drawer Dividers
  • Add Tape to Binder Clips to Create Fun Photo Stands
  • Add Stripes to Your Stapler or Tape Dispenser
  • Decorate Your Planner
  • Dress Up a Plain Notebook
  • Fancify Your Business Card Holder
  • Cover Your Keyboard Keys
  • Wrap Charger Blocks & Cables to Identify Then As Yours (great for traveling too!)
  • Add Washi to Shelf Edges (and change it up as often as you like!)

And try a few of these ideas around your house:

  • Wrap Candleholders (outside only!)
  • Dress Up Dollar Store Vases
  • Wrap Tape Around Water Bottles So Everyone Can Identify Their Bottle
  • Edge the Shelves in Your Linen or Clothing Closet, Kid’s Rooms or Kitchen
  • Color Code Kid’s Drawers or Toy Bins (or Toothbrushes!)
  • Decorate Your Mail Box
  • Create a Border on Magnetic Frig Frames
  • Fancy Up Old Picture Frames
  • Hang Recipes from a Cabinet While You’re Cooking
  • Cover Your Phone Books (if you still have any!)
  • Place it On Windows So Birds See the Glass!

There’s really no end to ways you can use this inexpensive supply to jazz up your office or home – care to share your ideas?

Washi Use #7: Tool Time

Have you ever struggled to keep dies in place while running them through your die-cutting machine?

Yeah, we thought so – us too!

Washi’s a great ‘tool’ in your craft room too!

Use it to:

  • Hold Dies in Place While Cutting W/Them (because the tape is removable, it won’t damage your projects)
  • Wrap Your Tools for Easy Identification
  • Close Packaging
  • Color Code Containers & Drawers (so you’ll know what’s inside them!)
  • Mark Your Cutting Mat or Cutter w/Commonly Used Measurements
  • Mask ‘Off-Limits’ Areas When Stamping, Painting or Spraying
  • Mark Your Work Area for Filming (so the projects you’re recording are always in frame!)
  • Wrap the Edges of Stencils to Create ‘Handles’ For Holding While Stenciling

Yup, I use it in all the ways mentioned above!

And how do you use it as a ‘tool?”
